This role seeks Applied and Computational Scientists to conduct research and development focusing on quantum algorithm design, reinforcement learning, and emerging AI models at SRI International. The scientist will develop novel algorithms for diverse applications, including optimization and biological systems, and work toward publishing research and commercializing relevant technologies. Key duties include initiating research ideas, leading experimental evaluations, collaborating with external partners, and writing proposals to secure project funding.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and lead the experimental evaluation of new research ideas, presenting findings to government and commercial clients.
Develop and implement novel algorithms and benchmark them against existing state-of-the-art approaches.
Document research findings thoroughly in technical reports and peer-reviewed research papers.
Write proposals and propose new ideas to secure funding opportunities.
Collaborate effectively with Principal Investigators and staff within academia, industry, and national labs.
Required Skills
Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, or a related computational field.
Demonstrated publication record.
Expertise in algorithm development related to quantum error correction, artificial intelligence, or scalable computational methods.
Experience implementing novel algorithms using programming languages like Python or C/C++.
Experience implementing novel algorithms using quantum computing libraries (e.g., Qiskit, PennyLane, Cirq).
Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills.
Nice-to-have Skills
Knowledge in reinforcement learning.
Knowledge in emerging AI models.
