This Senior Manager role leads a distributed team of optics engineers, photonics designers, and physicists focused on developing next-generation optics and photonics solutions for trapped-ion quantum computers. Key Responsibilities
Ensure the timely delivery of functional and high-performing optics and photonics solutions that align with the business schedule and needs.
Identify technological gaps between existing solutions and the performance required by the company's trapped-ion quantum computing architectures.
Synthesize high-level technical goals into strategic plans for the department, defining technical scope, schedule, and budget.
Manage the execution of technical plans, including tracking progress, allocating resources, and managing risks and opportunities.
Identify department staffing needs and fill key gaps by managing first-level managers, hiring, mentoring, and succession planning.
Partner with architecture and microfabrication teams to develop and deliver appropriate short-loop experiments to de-risk core components of a technical plan.
Required Skills
Minimum Master’s degree.
Minimum 1 year of experience working in the quantum technology industry.
Minimum 8 years of industry experience in optics or photonics.
Minimum 6 years of experience in a director, manager, or leadership role.
Must be a U.S. person (citizen, permanent resident, or asylum/refugee status holder) due to contractual requirements.
Nice-to-have Skills
Master’s degree in optics, photonics, or a closely related discipline.
Deep experience in new product introduction cycles involving optics and photonics.
Recent experience (within the last 2 years) with photonic integrated circuit development.
Recent experience (within the last 2 years) with metasurface optics development.
Proven expertise in Atomic, molecular, and optical (AMO) physics or quantum computing.
Experience managing distributed teams with remote or geographically distinct reports.
Programmatic acumen, including experience creating, driving, and tracking complex project plans.
