This role seeks a Lead Optical Engineer to support the development of commercial and research quantum computing systems. The engineer will be responsible for designing and architecting complex optical, micro-optical, and photonic systems used to manipulate light in next-generation quantum computers. A key function is leading development projects to validate technologies, methods, and suppliers, ultimately delivering production solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Participate in a team of physicists, optical, and opto-mechanical engineers supporting quantum computing system development.
Design, architect, and develop optical, micro-optical, and photonic systems for light creation, delivery, and measurement in quantum computer systems.
Lead development and design projects to validate technologies and suppliers that result in production solutions.
Required Skills
Minimum of a Master ’s Degree.
Minimum 10+ years of experience in optical design of components and systems (inclusive of advanced degree time).
Proven record of delivering optical solutions from concept to production.
Nice-to-have Skills
Possessing a Ph.D. or a Master ’s degree in Optics, Applied Physics, or a related field is valued.
6+ years of experience with photonic optical design, tolerancing, and analysis resulting in specifications and drawings.
4+ years of experience with photonic integrated circuits or metasurfaces physical optical designs and solutions.
Experience architecting complex optical systems and deriving optical system requirements from system-level needs.
Experience with assembly and testing of complex optical systems.
Familiarity with optical modeling software such as Zemax (preferred), Code V, LighTools, or FRED.
Experience with single photon detectors or CAD software.
