This position is for a Lead AMO Hardware Physicist focusing on the development and operation of trapped-ion quantum computing systems. The primary duties involve applying experimental research expertise to design, verify, and deploy quantum computers, while also collecting system performance data and characterizing device behavior in a research lab. The leader will prioritize and make decisions on complex research projects, working closely with engineering teams and presenting results publicly.
Key Responsibilities
Apply experimental laboratory research experience to design, develop, verify, and deploy quantum computers utilizing trapped ions as qubits.
Collaborate with teams of scientists and engineers to successfully implement new concepts.
Work in a research lab environment to collect data on system performance and characterize device characteristics.
Manage planning, prioritization, and decision making for complex, highly impactful research projects involving multiple teams.
Present scientific results publicly at conferences or through publications.
Required Skills
Completion of a PhD degree prior to starting the position.
Minimum 11 years of experience (PhD inclusive) in quantum information, experimental cold atom physics, or experimental trapped ion physics.

Experience leading large, multi-team technical efforts.
Experience working with quantum computing hardware, including programming experimental control systems for data collection, signal processing, and data analysis.
