This position seeks an Ion Transport Speed Project Lead to guide cutting-edge research and development efforts focused on improving ion transport in surface ion traps for quantum computing. Key responsibilities include guiding multi-pronged technical efforts spanning numerical simulation, ion trap fabrication, electronic control development, and in-lab experimental characterization. This role serves as the crucial technical interface between development teams and management, requiring the candidate to review results, implement improvements, and manage project plans and budgets.
Key Responsibilities
Provide technical coordination and guidance for efforts related to ion transport speed, covering numerical modeling, in-lab validation, ion trap fabrication, and control electronics.
Review scientific results from development to implement improved processes and identify areas needing further investigation.
Act as the technical interface between project groups and report plans and progress updates to management.
Perform necessary trade studies and detailed analysis.
Develop project plans, schedules, and budgets that align with the broader company strategy.
Present scientific results externally at conferences or through publications.
Required Skills
A completed PhD qualification.
Minimum 8 years of experience (inclusive of PhD time) in ion transport, quantum computing, or atomic physics.
Mandatory U.S. Person status (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or green card holder).
Nice-to-have Skills
10 years of experience in scientific research and development, engineering, or leadership roles.
Strong organizational and leadership skills.
Experience trapping ions or neutral atoms.
Experience with ion transport specifically in surface traps.
Experience performing simulation and modeling to inform design and experiments.
Experience with cryogenic systems.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, demonstrated by published research results.
