This role seeks an experimental AMO Hardware Scientist to develop, integrate, and operate quantum computing systems using trapped ions as qubits. The scientist will use their hands-on experience in advanced laboratory techniques, such as precision laser spectroscopy and low noise electronics, to manipulate quantum systems. Responsibilities include designing, developing, and verifying quantum computers, collecting performance data, and generating innovative solutions to improve current and future systems. This position requires strong collaboration skills and thought leadership in the field.
Key Responsibilities
Apply experience in experimental laboratory research to design, develop, verify, and deploy quantum computers utilizing trapped ions as qubits.
Collaborate with teams of scientists and engineers to implement new concepts into functional systems.
Collect data on system performance and characterize device characteristics within a research laboratory environment.
Generate and implement innovative hardware solutions to enhance current and future quantum computing systems.
Disseminate scientific results by presenting at conferences or through publications.
Required Skills
Completed PhD prior to starting.
Minimum 4 years of experience (including PhD) in quantum information, qubits, cold atom or trapped ion physics, vacuum systems, or cryogenics.
Nice-to-have Skills
PhD in Electrical Engineering, applied physics, applied mathematics, or computer science.
History of excellent experimental practices in designing or improving advanced systems.
Experience programming experimental control systems for data collection, signal processing, and data analysis.
Experience performing simulation and modeling to inform experiments.
Experience with the design or operation of a device for quantum information processing.
Experience with laser cooling and trapping of ions or neutral atoms.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, with published research results.
