The role involves working with technical leaders to define, document, and maintain the system architecture, including electrical, mechanical, optical, and software interfaces, specifically for the electronics. The engineer will be instrumental in bridging the architectural vision with practical implementation derived from iterative prototype designs. This person also serves as a communication hub, ensuring technical decisions and team expertise are captured and leveraged during development.
Key Responsibilities
Define and document the system architecture and requirements for electrical subsystems R&D on the next generation trapped-ion quantum computer.
Manage system requirements, interface documents, and engineering documentation to facilitate prototyping that contributes to the final system.
Collaborate with system engineers, subsystem leads, and architects to derive, organize, and communicate requirements, verification plans, and interfaces across the development team.
Act as a consultant to subsystem teams, ensuring that derived detailed requirements are understood, mutually compatible, verifiable, and complete.
Enable quick design iterations to prove out system concepts, focusing on value generation during the early stage of system maturity.
Required Skills
Bachelor's degree minimum
Minimum of 4 years of experience in Electrical Engineering
Minimum of 4 years of background in requirement-based design
Experience working with cross-functional teams developing and testing electronics
Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, green card holder, or granted asylum/refugee status)
Nice-to-have Skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Background working with optics, software, and low-noise electronics
Background doing early-stage R&D with cross-functional teams
Background in requirements engineering, system verification, and validation processes
Proficiency in system modeling, simulations, and analysis tools
