This role seeks a Mechanical Engineer to join the Quantum Sensing division to design, assemble, and test mechanical subsystems for world-leading quantum sensors, such as gravimeters and magnetometers. The engineer will focus on high-precision components like laser systems, optical setups, and ultra-high vacuum systems. Responsibilities span the entire technology lifecycle, including requirements definition, detailed CAD design, prototyping, testing, verification, and validation for robust field deployment, collaborating closely with a diverse team of scientists and engineers.
Key Responsibilities
Own the design of mechanical subsystems for quantum sensors, including laser systems, free-space optical systems, ultra-high vacuum systems, and structural components.
Manage the full technology lifecycle, including requirements definition, CAD design, prototyping, testing, verification, validation, and field demonstrations.
Use Inventor CAD and engineering skills to contribute to the detailed mechanical design and testing of quantum sensors based on established requirements.
Perform analysis and subsystem testing to demonstrate that systems meet specified performance and environmental requirements.
Collaborate with a diverse team of physicists, engineers, and stakeholders to design and integrate the highest-precision measurement systems.
Required Skills
Bachelor's degree or higher in mechanical engineering or a relevant discipline
2-5 years of experience designing and prototyping high-precision mechanical designs, including analysis, drawings, and tolerancing
Demonstrated experience designing with Inventor or similar CAD software
Nice-to-have Skills
Experience operating in an R&D or research environment
Experience with mechanical design for optical or other high-precision systems
Prior experience working in highly-regulated fields such as aerospace or medicine
Experience with FEA for structural, modal, or thermal analysis
