This role is for a Director of Equipment Engineering who will lead the installation and setup of advanced quantum computing hardware. Key duties include the end-to-end delivery of complex systems such as cryostats, vacuum infrastructure, and electronic racks. The director will coordinate closely with internal teams, facilities, and external suppliers. Experience in vacuum systems, managing manufacturing start-ups, and having strong technical project management skills are essential for success in this position.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the setup and activation of equipment necessary for the next generation of Quantum Computing hardware.
Manage equipment projects completely, from initial specifications through installation, acceptance, and ongoing operation.
Act as the main technical and planning contact point for all external equipment suppliers.
Coordinate equipment installation processes across various teams, including facilities, EHS, manufacturing, and R&D.
Develop and execute detailed plans for the installation, qualification, and initial operation of the equipment.
Establish documentation and readiness plans for equipment to support manufacturing start-up and scale-up.
Identify technical and schedule risks and proactively implement mitigation strategies.
Required Skills
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
10+ years of experience in equipment engineering or hardware setup.
Strong experience with Ultra High Vacuum (UHV) or High Vacuum (HV) systems.
Experience supporting manufacturing start-up initiatives.
Experience managing capital equipment delivered by external suppliers.
Excellent project management and leadership capabilities.
Nice-to-have Skills
Experience working with cryogenic systems or cryostats.
Professional background in semiconductor, quantum, or photonics environments.
Experience scaling equipment development from prototype stage into full production.
