This internship position focuses on technical research within quantum computing applications, specifically the design and analysis of quantum algorithms for near-term devices. The intern will undertake a supervised project related to quantum-enhanced simulation of materials or efficient representation of chemical problems on quantum devices. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to foundational research and gain experience working in a fast-paced quantum technology startup.
Key Responsibilities
Undertake a supervised research project focusing on methods related to quantum enhanced simulation of materials, including density functional theory and machine learning.
Work on the design, implementation, or analysis of quantum algorithms and related techniques applicable to near-term quantum computing.
Focus the project on the efficient representation of chemical and materials problems on quantum devices.
Required Skills
Currently pursuing or recently completed a PhD in electronic structure methods, theory and computation, Chemistry, Physics, Materials Science, or a closely related field.
Demonstrable interest and experience in applied and theoretical computational materials science.
A developing publication track-record in a relevant discipline.
Flexibility to work across different aspects of quantum software and underpinning theory.
Demonstrable interest in quantum computing and its application to chemical and materials simulation.
Experience in electronic structure methods.
Nice-to-have Skills
Experience in materials discovery and use of machine learning methods to enhance workflows.
Enthusiasm for learning and novel research.
Excellent communication skills.
Direct experience in quantum computing.
