The Device Test Engineer at OQC develops junction characterisation processes to advance quantum computing devices from lab to real-world applications. This role involves conducting scientific research on electrical properties, performing characterisation techniques, and building efficient data workflows. The engineer will turn research into mature processes, report findings to stakeholders, and automate measurements to improve efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Independently conduct cutting-edge scientific research to understand the electrical properties of devices used to build quantum computers.
Perform and expand the use of electrical characterisation techniques on devices to gain deeper insights into the functionality and performance of Josephson junctions.
Build streamlined ways of working that enable high-quality data to be generated, stored, and analysed.
Report findings to internal and external stakeholders, including contributing to published research and representing OQC in scientific settings.
Turn research results into mature processes.
Advance the use of automations to improve the efficiency of measurements, increase throughput, and decrease errors.
Required Skills
Proven research experience (PhD or significant professional experience in a research environment).
Deep understanding of electrical measurement and characterisation techniques.
High level of education in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Nanotechnology, Materials Science, or similar disciplines.
Experience with electrical transport measurements.
Proficiency in programming with Python, particularly for controlling equipment via APIs and developing automation scripts.
Ability to distil, analyse, and effectively communicate experimental measurements.
Nice-to-have Skills
Knowledge or experience with Josephson Physics.
Knowledge or experience with Nanofabrication processes.
Knowledge or experience with superconducting devices.
Knowledge or experience with nanoscale device physics.
