This hands-on role supports the Quantum Processor Engineering team by facilitating the fabrication and evaluation of Quantum Processors. The technician manages lab operations, including stock management, testing, inspection, and general upkeep in both laboratory and cleanroom environments. Key duties involve preparing ion-trap chips for assembly, performing tasks like die bonding and wire-bonding, and maintaining cryogenic vacuum chambers to conduct performance testing at low temperatures. This position is crucial for ensuring the quality and reliability of quantum systems.
Key Responsibilities
Support essential laboratory operations including stock management, testing, visual inspection, and general lab upkeep within both the main laboratory and the cleanroom.
Assist the engineering team by reporting and documenting the results of inspection and testing procedures.
Prepare ion-trap chips for packaging and assembly, including cleaning, and execute assembly tasks such as die bonding, wire-bonding, and packaging of test chips.
Maintain cryogenic vacuum chambers and associated control systems, essential for understanding processor performance.
Execute specific test routines to verify the electrical and mechanical properties of quantum devices.
Required Skills
Strong experience in soldering (specifically 0402 SMD components)
Experience with electrical and electronic testing
Diverse practical experience supporting scientific, laboratory or engineering work
Familiarity with basic electronics and standard electronic hardware evolution
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
Nice-to-have Skills
Prior experience as a laboratory technician
Familiarity with standard laboratory techniques and behaviours
Experience working within a cleanroom environment
Experience running basic electrical measurements
Experience running visual inspection routines on dies
Familiarity with CAD, mechanical engineering, vacuum chambers, or cryogenic systems
