This role is for an experimental AMO Physicist focused on building Nu Quantum’s quantum-network demonstrator. The Physicist will integrate proprietary qubit-photon interfaces and cavity microtechnology, working across atomic physics, cavity QED, and quantum engineering disciplines. Key duties involve executing remote-entanglement experiments and maintaining complex laboratory systems. This hands-on position requires system-level thinking to advance state-of-the-art networking rates and fidelities.
Key Responsibilities
Execute remote-entanglement experiments to benchmark and advance ion-trapping devices with integrated micro-cavity technology.
Maintain and troubleshoot complex laboratory systems, including laser setups, electronics, control systems, and ultra-high-vacuum hardware.
Collaborate across disciplines with engineering and simulation teams to deliver integrated experimental systems.
Support other AMO Physicists to help the team grow technical depth and problem-solving capability.
Participate in project teams by clearly communicating results, progress, and priorities across workstreams.
Uphold best practices in laboratory safety, documentation, and system reliability.
Participate in developing technical strategy, focusing on improving experimental design, automation, and scalability.
Required Skills
Experience in experimental AMO physics, preferably in ion-trapping.
Understanding of qubit control, atomic physics, or gate optimisation/benchmarking.
Experience working with optical, electronic, and UHV systems.
Understanding of laser locking, system automation, or real-time control (e.g. ARTIQ).
A system-level mindset comfortable connecting hardware, software, and control layers.
Strong collaboration and communication skills.
Nice-to-have Skills
Experience delivering complex projects within a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.
Experience contributing to project proposals, technical roadmaps, or long-term projects.
Experience with scientific communication (papers, talks, conferences).
Experience with cavity QED.
