Quantum Systems Expert (m/f/x)

We are looking for a Quantum Systems Expert with a strong background in quantum communication, particularly Quantum Key Distribution (QKD), to join our multidisciplinary team. You will lead or contribute to the development and integration of advanced quantum communication systems, with an emphasis on end-to-end architectures involving free-space or satellite-based platforms.
This role is ideal for someone with both theoretical insight and practical lab experience, eager to translate fundamental quantum principles into real-world secure communication solutions.

What awaits you at Mynaric

• Design, model, and evaluate quantum communication system architectures, including QKD, entanglement distribution, and hybrid systems.
• Oversee or contribute to experimental implementations, including alignment of optical systems, integration of photon sources, detectors, and synchronization electronics.
• Collaborate with engineering teams on system-level design, simulation, and performance validation.
• Translate mission-level requirements (e.g., satellite-ground link, secure uplink/downlink) into hardware and software specifications.
• Contribute to system integration efforts involving free-space optics (FSO), classical cryptography, and space-grade optical payloads.
• Participate in or lead technical proposal development for national and international quantum programs.
• Stay current with global advancements in quantum communication, quantum networking, and relevant standards.

What you bring with you

• Minimum Qualifications
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Quantum Physics, Electrical Engineering, Quantum Optics, or a related field.
  • Solid understanding of quantum mechanics, quantum communication protocols, and QKD theory.
  • Proven hands-on experience with lab-based quantum communication systems (e.g., entangled photon sources, decoy-state QKD, single-photon detectors).
  • Familiarity with optical system design, alignment, and integration.
  • Programming experience with simulation or control tools (e.g., Python, MATLAB).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, especially in documenting and presenting technical material.
• Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience working with or designing space-based quantum systems (e.g., satellite QKD, high-altitude platforms).
  • Knowledge of FSO links, pointing and tracking systems, or atmospheric channel modeling.
  • Experience contributing to or writing grant proposals, R&D funding applications, or technical roadmaps.
