IonQ is looking for a Staff Electrical Engineer to join their Quantum Control System team, focusing on building advanced quantum computers. This role involves designing and implementing electronics and embedded systems essential for quantum control operations like ion trapping and qubit preparation. The engineer will also help develop scalable control architectures to support multi-system quantum networking and distributed quantum computing. The main goal is to contribute to solving complex problems using the world's best quantum computers.
Key Responsibilities
Perform circuit design, simulation, and testing of low-noise analog and mixed-signal electronics and cabling for applications such as RF waveform generation and laser intensity stabilization.
Create schematics and board layouts, generating drawings, BOMs, and necessary documentation.
Write test procedures, perform board and system testing and debugging, and document all test results.
Analyze existing designs to implement noise reduction and electromagnetic compatibility improvements.
Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams and physicists to define requirements and integrate hardware into experimental and production environments.
Required Skills
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent industry experience in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
5+ years of experience with electronics design for high-speed digital and mixed-signal applications.
General knowledge of all aspects of the analog/mixed-signal chain, including power supplies, voltage references, amplifiers, filters, and data converters.
Nice-to-have Skills
MS or equivalent industry experience in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
10+ years of relevant experience.
Experience designing systems with Zynq Ultrascale+ SoCs or similar platforms.
Comfort working with ADCs, DACs, power management ICs, and high-speed digital interfaces like SPI, I2C, USB, or LVDS.
Proficiency in schematic capture using Altium Designer, OrCAD, or Allegro.
Programming experience in a general-purpose language such as Python, Go, Rust, or C++.
Familiarity with quantum systems, quantum networking, photonic interconnects, or control theory.
