  • Employment is contingent upon verifying 'U.S. Person' status (U.S. citizen, U.S. national, U.S. permanent resident, refugee, or asylee) due to export control and government contract restrictions.
  • The company may choose not to apply for a license or decline to use a license exception if 'U.S. Person' status is not confirmed, which may affect eligibility.

The Senior Staff Engineer will join the Facilities team to help shape the environments where next-generation quantum computers are built globally. This role leads the design, installation, and performance oversight of mechanical, electrical, and control systems across the company's facilities portfolio. The engineer partners closely with internal teams to ensure labs and technical spaces operate with the precision and reliability demanded by quantum computing. Success requires deep expertise in mechanical or electrical engineering supporting complex, mission-critical environments like cleanrooms or advanced manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

Set technical direction and oversee the design, installation, maintenance, and repair of all building systems, including HVAC, electrical, and fire protection.

Conduct rigorous system analysis of electrical infrastructure, performing load calculations, short-circuit analysis, and arc flash hazard assessments.

Partner with internal teams (engineering, operations, and manufacturing) to ensure building systems meet strict operational requirements for technical lab and manufacturing spaces.

Develop and monitor Key Performance Indicators for building systems and ensure strict compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations.

Provide technical oversight and direction to external contractors and vendors for building system installations, repairs, and maintenance.

Required Skills

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering specializing in facility or building systems.

Minimum of 13 years of experience supporting highly technical environments.

Experience supporting high-tech manufacturing, semiconductor, or research environments requiring critical clean room environmental management.

Deep expertise in mechanical systems design, including HVAC, process piping, and critical environmental control for labs.

Strong knowledge of electrical codes and standards (NEC, IEEE, NFPA 70E) and complex electrical infrastructure.

Experience defining and implementing MEP standards and engineering requirements.

Experience with PLC programming, SCADA systems, and Building Automation Systems (BAS).

Nice-to-have Skills

Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.

Active Certified Facility Manager (CFM) certification or license.

Certifications in specific electrical systems or safety standards, such as Certified Electrical Safety Compliance Professional.

Experience designing and implementing complex electrical distribution, protection, and control systems.
