This role is for a Cable and Harness Engineer responsible for integrating complex components within IonQ's trapped-ion quantum computer systems. You will analyze existing designs to design, fabricate, and test wiring harnesses connecting various electrical, optical, and RF components. The position involves supporting the entire product lifecycle, serving as a key point of contact for Production and Field Deployment teams, and ensuring design compliance and quality.
Key Responsibilities
Design, fabricate, and test wiring harnesses that connect the components in the quantum system, while also considering mechanical aspects like shielding and routing.
Triage Engineering Change Requests and Discrepancy Reports for the Routed Systems team, determining change impact and documenting requirements.
Support the entire lifecycle of subsystems and harnesses, including fabrication, troubleshooting, and testing, and drive Root Cause Analysis for failures.
Collaborate with mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, optical engineers, and physicists on cross-functional technical solutions.
Coordinate the activities of contract routed systems designers and ensure all project deliverables are achieved on time and within budget.
Required Skills
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent technical experience.
At least three years of hands-on experience designing, fabricating, or testing wiring harnesses.
Detailed knowledge of fabrication processes and workmanship criteria for cable harnesses according to IPC/WHMA-A-620A.
Technical expertise in selecting and qualifying components for electrical and optical cable harness designs.
Familiarity with mechanical CAD software tools such as SolidWorks.
Ability to read and understand datasheets for electronic components.
Good communication skills and the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
