🏢 Industry

This role is for a Staff Mechanical Engineer focused on developing and validating a quantum timing product designed for space applications. You will ruggedize an existing product line for new applications by managing the process from initial design and prototyping through testing and pre-production phases. The position requires applying expertise in mechanical design, engineering analysis, and rigorous validation of space flight hardware.

Key Responsibilities

Analyze and interpret complex mechanical design requirements using relevant industry standards.

Develop comprehensive CAD models, engineering drawings, and complete documentation packages for all designs.

Conduct engineering analysis to guide design decisions and clearly communicate findings to project leaders.

Assemble prototype units and create robust assembly procedures for eventual higher volume production.

Develop and execute rigorous test plans to evaluate the performance of mechanical sub-systems.

Coordinate with manufacturing teams to incorporate Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFM/DFA) into design.

Required Skills

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an ABET accredited institution.

At least 5 years of experience in a professional, product-focused engineering role.

High proficiency using Solidworks 3D CAD tools for mechanical design.

Experience building, simulating, verifying, and validating space flight hardware designs.

Understanding of ASTM E595 standard for material selection in space environments.

Experience with thermal or vibration analysis, simulation, and experimentation.

Demonstrated experience applying Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFM/DFA) principles.

Nice-to-have Skills

Master’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering.

Seven or more years of professional experience in product-focused engineering.

Experience designing creative products that optimize size, cost, functionality, or aesthetics.

Familiarity with fiber-optic, free-space optical systems, or optical atomic clocks.

Experience using SolidWorks PDM and Arena PLM or similar document control systems.

Experience using SolidWorks, ANSYS, or COMSOL for design analysis.
