This Mechanical Engineer role involves designing, analyzing, and simulating mechanical systems for optical and ultra-high vacuum environments used in quantum technology. Key Responsibilities
Capture and interpret mechanical design requirements for complex optical and ultra-high vacuum systems by collaborating with physicists and engineers.
Create professional CAD models, drawings, and complete documentation packages following company and industry standards.
Guide design decisions using rapid prototyping and engineering analysis, clearly communicating findings to project leaders.
Support the production team by assembling prototype systems and documenting feedback related to design for manufacturing (DfM) and assembly (DfA).
Identify and procure custom and off-the-shelf components by working closely with external suppliers.
Required Skills
Minimum of 2 years industry experience in a relevant engineering role.
Experience with 3D CAD software.
Awareness of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and technical drawing practices (ASME or ISO).
Familiarity with structural and thermal analysis tools and methods.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Nice-to-have Skills
Experience with free space or fibre optical system design, lasers, or photonics.
Experience designing for harsh dynamic environments (shock, vibration, temperature, humidity).
Familiarity with magnetic field simulation and shielding techniques.
Experience working in an ISO certified manufacturing environment.
Experience using data management systems like PDM, PLM, or ERP.
Background in optical system design and integration.
