This position is for a Master's or PhD student to join the Applied Quantum Science team at IBM Research – Israel. The main goal is to conduct cutting-edge research focused on achieving quantum advantage, which means finding real-world problems where quantum computing outperforms classical methods. The student will use IBM's advanced quantum hardware to explore and solve these challenging problems.
Key Responsibilities
Explore and solve real-world problems where quantum computing can offer a clear advantage over classical methods.
Conduct quantum simulation of molecular structures and properties.
Identify and formulate problems that can demonstrate quantum advantage.
Benchmark quantum solutions against strong classical approaches to rigorously validate any claimed quantum advantage.
Required Skills
Working knowledge of Qiskit, including the ability to translate a Hamiltonian into quantum circuits.
Ability to formulate Hamiltonians for chemical systems or quantum problems.
Working knowledge in quantum machine learning and its comparisons with classical methods.
Nice-to-have Skills
Experience with quantum algorithms or variational methods.
Familiarity with quantum chemistry or condensed matter physics.
Strong programming skills in Python.
