Senior Quantum Software Engineer

Our client is looking for someone to join their team at the forefront of quantum computing, where you’ll help build the operating system that powers tomorrow’s quantum machines. Working closely with our hardware experts, you’ll design and develop robust control, monitoring, and analysis software that scales across multiple quantum computers.

What you’ll do

• Design, implement, and test new features to advance our software stack.
• Collaborate with physicists and engineers to bridge the gap between hardware and software.
• Build automation for testing and deployment within CI/CD pipelines.
• Write clear, consistent documentation throughout the development process.
• Stay ahead of emerging technologies and deepen your understanding of quantum computing.

Essential qualifications

• 5+ years of experience developing software for control systems, embedded devices, or experimental hardware setups.
• Strong expertise in one or more areas:
• Software architecture, distributed systems, or real-time systems
• Control and automation software in optics or physics labs
• Proficiency in at least two programming languages (e.g. Python, Rust, C++, C).
• Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in a relevant technical field.
• Hands-on experience with Git and CI/CD workflows.
• Strong collaboration skills, especially with experimental physicists and engineers.
• Fluent English communication (spoken & written); German is an advantage.
• Work authorization for Germany/EU.
• Based in Munich or willing to relocate.

Nice-to-have skills

• Experience in optics labs (e.g. lasers, vacuum systems, atom/ion experiments) with software control responsibilities.
• Hardware-in-the-loop testing and integration with laboratory or industrial systems.
• Familiarity with agile development (Scrum).
• Prior experience in start-ups or research-focused environments.
• Personal tech projects or contributions to open-source communities.
