This VP of Software Engineering position involves building, leading, and scaling the Quantum Firmware team responsible for the entire software stack of trapped-ion quantum computers. The leader will define the software strategy, architecture, and execution for embedded systems, real-time control, and cloud services powering the quantum operations. Success requires driving engineering excellence and collaborating closely with hardware, electronics, and quantum physics teams to integrate software seamlessly.
Key Responsibilities
Define and own the software strategy for the quantum computing platform across control software, embedded systems, cloud services, and developer tools.
Build, lead, and mentor high-performing software engineering teams responsible for control software, cloud platforms, and DevOps.
Lead the design and implementation of the full software stack powering quantum operations, including firmware, compiler toolchains, and embedded software.
Establish and continuously evolve engineering processes for continuous integration, continuous delivery, testing, documentation, and release cycles.
Collaborate with Quantum Physicists, Hardware, and Electronics teams to translate complex requirements into actionable software architectures and ensure seamless integration with quantum hardware.
Required Skills
8+ years of experience in software engineering, with 5+ years in leadership roles (Director, VP, Head of Software).
Strong background in systems-level and real-time or embedded software.
Experience with hardware-software integration.
Proven success in building and scaling high-performing engineering teams.
Deep understanding of high-performance computing, control systems, compilers, runtimes, or cloud platforms.
Nice-to-have Skills
Experience in quantum computing or quantum programming languages.
Experience with control software for scientific instrumentation.
Understanding of microwave systems, FPGA-based control, or signal processing.
Prior experience in dynamic startups, flat hierarchies, or research-driven environments.
Technology Tags
