This role is for a Quantum Processing Unit Architect focusing on trapped-ion technology development. The architect will lead the design and implementation of the compiler architecture, software optimization, and hardware/software co-design for the quantum computer stack. Key goals include defining scalable software structures across both front-end and back-end compilers and contributing significantly to the broader technology roadmap. This is a crucial position for shaping the practical implementation of quantum computing.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the compiler architecture, software optimization, and hardware/software co-design efforts for the QPU.
Define the structure and ensure the scalability of the quantum software stack, covering front-end and back-end compilers.
Drive a hardware-software co-design approach to optimize the quantum computer architecture for various use cases.
Perform performance analysis and optimization of quantum algorithms across different architectures.
Design and specify compiler front-end, back-end, and optimization strategies in collaboration with the quantum software applications team.
Required Skills
Master’s degree in computer science, physics, or engineering.
3+ years of industry or post-graduate R&D experience in quantum computing related topics.
3+ years of experience using Python, Rust, C++, or similar programming languages.
Demonstrable working knowledge of quantum programming frameworks like Qiskit and Cirq.
Deep understanding of quantum computing paradigms, architectures, and hardware realizations.
Proficiency in quantum algorithms and compilers.
Strong grasp of quantum circuit design.
Nice-to-have Skills
Experience designing or implementing quantum compilers in a product-oriented environment.
Experience driving cross-functional co-design efforts between hardware and software teams.
Ability to initiate roadmap-impacting decisions with real implementation consequences.
