This role is for a Research Scientist at CSIRO’s Data61, contributing to the National Quantum Computing Testbed. Key Responsibilities
Conduct innovative research in quantum software platforms, focusing on quantum compilers, algorithms, and hardware-agnostic solutions.
Collaborate across CSIRO and with external academic and industry partners to drive impactful research and technology development.
Produce high-quality research outputs, including publications, patents, and technical presentations at conferences.
Develop and demonstrate research prototypes at key events, applying design thinking and impact-focused methodologies.
Support proposal development and contribute to new research directions aligned with strategic priorities.
Required Skills
PhD (or equivalent research experience) in Physics, Computer Science, Quantum Computing, or a related field.
Demonstrated ability to conduct original and innovative research, developing novel scientific approaches.
Proven track record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals, with contributions to grants or patent applications.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including presenting research at conferences.
A history of scientific creativity and a willingness to explore new ideas and methods.
Nice-to-have Skills
Foundational knowledge of quantum computing, algorithms, and their applications.
Understanding of software engineering principles, including compiler design.
Awareness of data security considerations in quantum and classical systems.
Experience developing prototypes related to quantum computing or software research.
