AOSense is looking for an Optical Physicist to work on advanced quantum technologies. This role involves designing, building, and testing laser systems for fieldable atom optic devices used in inertial navigation, geophysics, and timekeeping. The physicist will also guide the transition to compact and integrated photonic systems for future generations of sensors.
Key Responsibilities
Develop compact laser systems for atom-based sensors and frequency standards.
Design, build, and characterize optical frequency combs and high-finesse cavities.
Validate the long-term stability of photonic systems in dynamic environments.
Characterize laser performance, including linewidth, beam quality, and lifetime.
Model laser beam propagation with optical design software.
Transition photonics devices to manufacturing.
Contribute to research proposals for further development and applications.
Required Skills
Expertise with lasers, optics, optomechanics, electro-optics, and acousto-optics.
Hands-on experience with optical test equipment.
Proficiency with single-mode optical fiber systems.
Ability to operate and troubleshoot electronic control systems for photonics devices.
Nice-to-have Skills
Experience with optical frequency metrology, including optical frequency combs and high-finesse cavities.
Knowledge of ultrafast lasers and amplifiers.
Experience with laser frequency stabilization.
Familiarity with narrow-linewidth diode lasers.
Experience in integrated photonics design and fabrication.
Knowledge of micro-optic and diode chip assembly and packaging.
Proficiency with engineering software packages such as Zemax, FRED, SolidWorks, or COMSOL.
