This role is for a Senior Design Automation Engineer supporting the development of a fault-tolerant quantum computer. You will collaborate closely with chip design teams to automate, scale, and optimize the quantum device design process. Key duties involve translating high-level scientific requirements into performant and scalable software implementations, including Python frameworks and infrastructure-as-code setups.

Key Responsibilities

Work with chip designers to build an automated flow for quantum processor design.

Develop a shared Python library for analysis and optimization routines to ensure reusability across multiple designs.

Profile and improve the performance of design, simulation, and analysis tools to support scaling to larger devices.

Leverage infrastructure-as-code principles to define and orchestrate high-performance computing workloads.

Empower scientists to actively contribute to the codebase by providing mentorship and documentation.

Make necessary changes to the database and UI to capture and visualize design progress and performance.

Required Skills

Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or a related language.

Experience working with scientists in a research environment.

Experience with the full software development lifecycle including planning, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance.

Experience setting up and running high-performance computing (HPC) workflows.

A PhD, or a Master's degree combined with six or more years of applied research experience.

Nice-to-have Skills

Experience with chip design and layout software.

Experience with superconducting quantum computing.

Experience with common open-source scientific software.

Experience with AWS tools and services or cloud computing.

Experience with releasing open source software or publishing research papers.
