The Senior Design Automation Engineer joins the Center for Quantum Computing team to develop a fault-tolerant quantum computer by creating robust software solutions. This role involves translating high-level scientific requirements into scalable implementations, such as Python APIs and automation routines, for quantum device design. The engineer will collaborate closely with chip design teams to automate, scale, and optimize the process of designing, simulating, and improving superconducting quantum devices.

Key Responsibilities

Work with chip designers to establish a flow for automating the design of quantum processors.

Develop a shared Python library for optimization and analysis routines that can be reused across different quantum designs.

Profile and enhance the performance of design, simulation, and analysis tools to support scaling up to larger quantum devices.

Utilize infrastructure-as-code principles to define and manage High-Performance Computing workloads.

Empower research scientists to contribute effectively to the codebase by providing mentorship and documentation.

Required Skills

PhD or Master's degree with 6 or more years of applied research experience.

Programming experience in Java, C++, Python, or related languages.

Experience collaborating with scientists in a research environment.

Experience managing the full software development lifecycle (planning, design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance).

Experience configuring and executing high-performance computing (HPC) workflows.

Nice-to-have Skills

Experience using chip design and layout software.

Experience in superconducting quantum computing.

Familiarity with common open-source scientific software.

Experience using AWS tools and services or other cloud computing platforms.

Experience releasing open source software or publishing research papers.
